Simonis Cloth... Since 1680

When you're purchasing or recovering a table, you need to think about the cloth. The cloth is the only part of the table that your ball touches. The fabric you choose is critical to your game. The cloth that overlays your slate must enhance its surface and never get in the way of your game. It must provide perfect flatness to give the ball a true and accurate roll, and assure that your shots have consistent speed. Only Simonis cloth actually improves the surface of slate. Slate is only as good as what it is covered with... because the balls touch the cloth, not the slate. Over three centuries of experience enables Simonis to craft such a consistent cloth.

Simonis cloth delivers the best play. For generations, Simonis has focused on what makes for the most accurate, most consistent play and we have woven it into our cloth. We make our own cloth in our own mill. Simonis craftsmen in Verviers, Belgium have spent generations raising the weaving of premium quality wool cloth to an art form, ultimately developing superior table coverings that have defined the needs of carom, pool and snooker. The distinctive quality of Simonis cloth has never been duplicated.

Simonis is the oldest and largest company in the billiard industry dedicated solely to the production of billiard fabrics for pool, carom and snooker. Our specialization enables us to maintain the precision and consistency that have become our hallmark. The only cloth we make is for Billiard games.

Simonis continues to define the standards for the industry. Providing a flawless, defect-free playing surface is why Simonis Cloth has been on tournament tables all around the world for generations and why it is the perfect choice for commercial rooms as well as home tables. Simonis is not felt, it is carefully and precisely woven fabric, specifically made to enhance your game by allowing the ball to roll straight and true while maintaining consistent speed and spin. There is a reason that all other cloths compare themselves to Simonis. The accuracy and consistency of Simonis cloth is without equal.

Simonis cloth is incredibly smooth with no felt-like fuzziness. Worsted construction means that there are no short fibers that can release from the cloth to form "pills" or fuzz-balls that have to be removed from the playfield in order to allow the ball to roll straight and true. In addition, worsted construction does not allow the cloth to wear like nappy woolen cloth which eventually develops tracks or grooves in the cloth. With Simonis, ball spin is consistent, and the roll stays straight and true on every shot.

The hallmark of Simonis cloth is its perfect accuracy and precision. Smooth, even threads assure a consistent speed, English and cushion rebound. High wool content worsted thread construction takes ball spin more consistently and helps reduce ball burns. This precise construction provides outstanding consistency which is why Simonis has remained the choice for tournament play for generations.

Simonis cloth is so smooth and flat that you never need to overpower a shot to get the distance. Simonis Cloth starts with very fine combed wool yarn. This long-fiber wool is then tightly-twisted and woven (the worsted wool process) into cloth. Then it is specially sheared perfectly flat and finally finished in a tradition of craftsmanship that our mill in Verviers, Belgium, pioneered and has refined for over three centuries. The result is a beautiful precision cloth that achieves the smoothest, most accurate and most consistent play surface available.

Tough enough for professionals and amateurs alike. Professional players prefer Simonis for the same reasons that make it great for commercial use or family play - strong worsted thread construction and high thread count resists tearing, scuffing and spills, and Simonis 860 blend resists ball burns better due to its high wool content.

A superior value. Simonis plays better, longer. Because it plays better, it allows you to more fully enjoy the game. An investment in Simonis is an investment in your enjoyment. After your table is installed and leveled, it’s only you, the ball and the cloth. Simonis cloth is specially woven and sheared so the direction of the ball is not affected by the cloth. Whether you play for sport or reward, whether you spend $500, $5000 or $50000 for your table, insist on accuracy. Insist on Simonis.

Stain Resistant. Simonis cloth naturally repels liquids because we use fine worsted wool and a high thread count. This keeps liquids from penetrating the cloth and allows spills to be cleaned up quickly without staining or damaging the playfield. Recently some cloths have entered the market with a "new" feature... stain resistance. These cloths require chemical processes to achieve the ability to resist liquid spills. Unfortunately, the chemical treatment reduces the predictability of the cloth, and this negatively impacts your game. Is this a new feature? Resisting liquid spills has always been a part of Simonis cloth. We have chosen not to chemically treat our 860 and 760 cloth, because chemical treatments would actually reduce the quality of these cloths.

Simonis cloth is very different from the fuzzy and inconsistent "felt" that is still used in the industry. Simonis is woven and precisely sheared so you can readily see the weave of our cloth. When installing Simonis cloth, be sure to put the SMOOTH SIDE UP. The smooth side also has printing on the edge with the grade, i.e. SIMONIS 860. This is the playing surface of the cloth. The back of the cloth is not sheared as fine and is slightly fuzzy.
